I just finished it in two days. Love it! It’s not just about love, it’s about loving people well. Thanks for writing such tough stuff so well- I have suffered from PTSD and your treatment was well done. I also loved Esther’s point of view as a full person and what it feels like to be treated as a caricature. So good!
Congratulations Claire! My copy arrived yesterday. I am sharing it with my friend who is in charge of funeral lunches at our church!! We are both excited to dive in.
Story of my purchase: before I could get to Barnes and Noble to buy it, I went to a book signing event with Kendra Adachi and Emily P. Freeman. As we walked into the indie bookstore, I told my friends that I must not purchase any books, as my bookshelves are full; I have stacks of books on the floor, and many of them are unread.
To my friends' amusement, I walked out with two books: Brene Brown's Atlas of the Heart and your Funeral Ladies (which was on the New Releases table). I am so excited, and totally unrepentant about violating my book buying ban. I can't wait to dive in!
Congratulations, Claire!!! I love what you wrote at the end of this post about what this book is about, and it sounds wonderful. So glad you are CELEBRATING today! Cheering you on from Philadelphia and so looking forward to reading your adult debut! <3
On about 20% in and the characters are relatable, the scenery idyllic, the storyline mysterious. This could be my childhood Philadelphia Northwood neighborhood with how the characters know one another well enough to be considered family and the way they treat newcomers. Looking forward to sharing this book with my mom and her longtime neighborhood friends.
